“I found out about Teach For Malaysia through Graduan Aspire. I’m a teacher now, and the rest is history. Come say ‘Hi’ – you don’t know what you are going to find at the Teach For Malaysia booth!”
Puteri Nazatulshima graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Food Science & Technology from Universiti Teknologi Mara. She found out about Teach For Malaysia while attending the Graduan Aspire career fair in 2014, and made the decision to join the Teach For Malaysia Fellowship in 2015.
Puteri is currently a third-year teacher at a high-need school in Miri, Sarawak.
“Most of my students come from low-income backgrounds. Their parents earn an average of RM300 or below per month. I always ask myself, what can I do to break this poverty cycle?”
Puteri started to invest a lot in her classes, and saw her students improve. At the end of 2016, her students were the first to outperform the Kelas Rancangan Khas, which is the top class in their form.
Half of her class were illiterate when she started teaching them in 2015.
“The attention and trust that I gave them somehow empowered my students to achieve more.”
Puteri’s students proved if you want to change your life, you can do it – regardless of your circumstances.
